Two and one half years ago we packed up our family and moved to New York. This week, Aaron was laid off.
Yesterday was his last day in and he spent the day being professional and putting a positive spin on this reorganization of the company. Today, for most of the day, we've been doing a post mortem on the entire experience. Not that it changes anything, but for some reason he needs to look for signs that were missed or things he should have done differently. Tonight he has a "farewell" dinner to attend, and he's reheresing his speech. I am beyond blown away at how he's facing this.
As an executive, he'll have severance compensation so finances won't be a worry right away. Clearly, everything we spend money on will be more tightly scrutinized. I feel like I was blindfolded, stuffed in a sack, then dumped by the side of a lonely road in the middle of nowhere. I wonder how long it will take for us to find our way back to feeling settled. That's all I want. I've just about given up on ever feeling like I'm home.

This is happening to so many lately; very depressing.
Oh honey, I'm so sorry about this. I know how hard this move was for you....and now??? We just never know, do we? I haven't felt like I was "home" for so many years now...I don't even know where home is anymore. I'm glad you'll be financially okay, and I hope it will last until Aaron finds another position. It's a cruel world to be looking for a new job - so I'm glad you two have your family and each other for a "home."
I'm so sorry. My heart is breaking for you. I know there are no words that can comfort, but please call me if you want to talk. I love you.
Kat, I'm so sorry. You have tried so hard to make this work, to embrace your new life, to get involved, to make a home for yuor family. This economy is just vicious.
I'm so sorry. This move was such a challenge for you, and then to have this come up. Y'all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Geez...this was unexpected!
Any chance of moving back to Allentown?
This does suck... You will be in my thoughts.
I hope you are able to weather the change and find yourselves in the perfect place a short time from now. Life is all about opportunities - chosen and otherwise. Best Wishes!!
Oh Kat, I am so sorry.
I am so sorry to hear!!! Lay offs are never easy. You think you should see it coming but of course you don't because they don't want you to leave before they are ready for you to. Then the doubt sinks in as to why you weren't good enough or why you took the chance and didn't follow a safer route, or some other equally self-attacking transcript that runs through our heads. But, in the end, it is best to remember, it is nothing personal. It's just simply a business decision. The movie "Up in the Air" talks about lay-offs as opportunities. Opportunities to do what you really want. Here's hoping you and your family find your way to what you really want.
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this. I know these past couple of years have been so tough for you and to have this happen just stinks. I'm praying for something good to come out of this.
Wow, that felt like a punch in the gut just reading it. I hope and pray some wonderful new opportunities open for you and Aaron. Maybe it will open the door moving back to Allentown
Oh Kat I'm so sorry. I remember reading about how difficult the move and subsequent transitions were for you and your family. All that and now a layoff. Sometimes life just does not seem fair. I am a strong believer in the fact that everything happens for a reason even if it never becomes clear. Good luck with yet one more transition in you life.
Wow!!! has it been 2 and a half years already? Maybe this is a sign of something new yet to come.
Very nice that finances wont be an issue, maybe it will give the two of you some quality time to reconnect and come up with a new game plan.
Cant help but wonder what new windows have opened for you.
xoxoxo * Coy
Oh no! I remember what a difficult move this was for you and your family, the selling of your family home back in PA. I hope that things look up real soon, if they haven't already.
